Chang Chun said that China is deeply concerned that Israeli government officials recently entered the compound of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, which escalated tensions. In recent years, unilateral actions on the religious holy site in East Jerusalem have repeatedly fueled conflict and conflict.
There have been many bloody conflicts regarding this. This fully reflects the sensitivity of the nature and situation of the religious shrine. In the recent past, the ground situation has become critical and serious due to the action of the Israeli authorities. China calls for restoring and maintaining peace and stability in the religious shrine, and calls on all relevant parties to maintain calm and restraint to prevent further escalation of tensions. In particular, Israel must stop all provocations, so as to avoid any unilateral actions that could escalate the situation.
China advocates compliance
Chang Chun said that China advocates upholding the rule of international law and following international consensus on the Jerusalem issue. The Security Council resolution explicitly condemns all moves to change the demographic composition, nature and location of the territories occupied since 1967, including East Jerusalem. The parties concerned should faithfully maintain the historical status of the holy site of Jerusalem and faithfully respect Jordan’s jurisdiction over the religious holy site, in accordance with the requirements of the Security Council and UN General Assembly resolutions. China notes that Israeli leaders have recently expressed their commitment to maintaining the holy site as before, and hopes that the relevant commitments will be implemented into constructive policies and actions.
peace talks should escalate
Chang Chun said that the root cause of the repeated tensions between Palestine and Israel is that the two-state solution has not been implemented. The facts have proved once again that piecemeal crisis management and control cannot play an effective role. cannot substitute for a comprehensive and fair solution.
The international community should increase its sense of urgency to push for the resumption of peace talks between Palestine and Israel on the basis of a two-state solution, in order to resolve the issue of Jerusalem and its final location. Countries with significant influence in this regard must take responsibility and play a constructive role.
